Annotated Edition of
The Book of Enoch
Edited by David Hocking
The 1830 chapters 6 and 7 of the Book of Moses act as a “control” to Joseph Smith being a revealer of ancient “Biblical” texts. The Lord prophesied in 1835 that the book of Enoch would come forth in due time. Varied Enoch texts have come forth after 1835 and validate the revelations Joseph received.
250 Pages with Insights, Illustrations, Old Testament Artwork and Reformatted Text.
The Annotated Edition of the Book of Enoch combines all known Enoch texts in one book. The Ethiopic Enoch (1 Enoch), Slavonic Enoch (2 Enoch), Sefer Hekhalot (3 Enoch), Book of Jasher Enoch (Chapters 3&4) along with the Joseph Smith Enoch (Moses 6-8) are presented.
From the gorgeous cover to the gilded pages filled with annotations, insights and a comprehensive Index, the book’s unique appeal stems, in part, from the fact that it is the first edition to feature a side-by-side comparisons of how each book supports the other as a witness to their authenticity. Another aspect is the changing font colors throughout the text: red for Deity, blue for angels and italicized blue for the voice of Satan.
The familiar texts have been treated in three unique dimensions:
- 1st, LITERARY treatment of the text;
- 2nd, addition of “INSIGHT” pages;
- 3rd, use of vast amounts of COLOR in a variety of forms.

The Books of Ethiopic Enoch, Slavonic Enoch, Sefer Hekhalot, the Book Jasher Enoch (Chapters 3 &4) along with the Joseph Smith Enoch (Moses 6-8) are presented together for the first time. The texts have not been altered, but the formatting and literary presentation of the text has, (e.g. verses are combined into coherent paragraphs; new descriptive headers appear within chapters over each new thought). Verse numbers are superscripted; poetical stanzas shown in their Hebraic forms; quotation marks, indentation and BOLD text identify voices of speakers, and much more; Ancient Hebraic writing forms such as psalms, parallelisms, etc. are shown in-context along with font colors which identifies the voice of the speaker.
The Annotated Edition gives powerful testimony to the fact that the Book of Moses, as revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith at the end of 1830, is indeed an ancient Hebrew literary masterpiece as it compares to other Enoch texts found and translated into English years after his death. It is a physical witness that Joseph Smith was a revealer of ancient texts as each subsequent Enoch text was not available at the time he received his revelations.
The editor of this Annotated Edition, David R. Hocking of Raleigh, North Carolina, began the project as a way of enhancing his own study of the Book of Moses to determine if it related an authentic parallel history as contained in the Enoch texts found in Ethiopia, Russia, and Jerusalem. His findings reveal that the Enoch passages in the Book of Moses that Joseph Smith received prior to the English translation of those other texts corroborate specific events in the Book of Moses that are not found in the Old Testament, and will, therefore, enhance your understanding of how this volume supplements Old Testament studies.
